Senior Manager of Software Engineering

Who you are

• You have 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing engineering teams, with hands-on depth in Kubernetes, service mesh, networking (DNS, TLS, HTTP proxies), and a major public cloud
• You use AI development tools hands-on, and you have the technical depth to judge the architecture and quality of AI-generated output
• You assess candidates on their ability to write effective prompts, evaluate AI outputs, and orchestrate multi-agent workflows, in addition to core technical skills
• A related technical degree required
• You have programming experience in Go or Python
• You have used infrastructure-as-code and delivery tools such as Terraform and Argo
• You have used observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, or Elasticsearch
• You have experience building AI multi-agent or retrieval-augmented generation systems, or leading open-source contribution strategy What the job involves
• Join Salesforce as a Senior Manager based in San Francisco, leading the Reliability Engineering team that runs our multi-cloud compute platform
• Your team keeps Kubernetes, Service Mesh, Ingress Gateway, and Identity services secure and highly available across more than 1,000 clusters on AWS, Alibaba Cloud, and Google Cloud
• This is a critical leadership role blending deep technical expertise with a people-first leadership mindset. The leader will set the vision and drive the operations, reliability for the next-generation Service Mesh and Identity architecture across multiple clouds (AWS, AliCloud, GCP)
• Responsibilities include orchestrating, monitoring, availability and operations for the microservices supporting service mesh and ingress gateway on a large fleet of 1000+ clusters running various technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, network load balancers, service mesh, Istio and so on
• Lead, coach, and grow a team of platform engineers, building a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Set the technical vision and roadmap for the next generation of Service Mesh and Identity, and keep the platform reliable, observable, and self-healing at fleet scale
• Partner with architects, product owners, and engineering leaders to deliver features and spot issues before they affect customers
• Develop each engineer's ability to work in an AI-augmented environment, own how AI tools fit into the team's daily development cycle, and guard architectural integrity, security, and technical standards as AI-generated code increases The application process
