Job Summary Quicken Business & Personal (QBP) helps self-employed professionals and small business owners manage their business and personal finances in one place, bringing together invoicing, expense tracking, and personal finance tools. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of 8–10 web, mobile, and full-stack engineers building these experiences. You will own the team's technical direction, delivery, and professional development, partnering closely with Product, Design, Quality, and shared-platform leaders. You will help turn customer problems into reliable, easy-to-use financial workflows, make practical architectural and delivery decisions, and develop engineers who can take on greater technical leadership. This role calls for a leader who stays close to the technology through architecture discussions, code reviews, and occasional direct contribution. You will also help shape our AI-native development strategy and coach the team to use AI tools effectively, with sound technical judgment and clear accountability for software quality. Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of 8–10 web, mobile, and full-stack engineers. Set clear goals, provide candid feedback, address performance gaps, and create growth opportunities through regular coaching, including development of senior engineers and technical leads.
- Grow and retain strong engineers, and build a culture of ownership, collaboration, learning, and high standards while balancing delivery commitments with team health.
- Contribute to our AI-native development strategy and lead the team’s adoption of AI tools and workflows, coaching engineers to scale their impact while maintaining sound technical judgment and accountability for software quality.
- Partner with Product Management and Design to understand customer workflows, shape solutions and trade-offs, define success measures, and use instrumentation and post-launch learning to improve customer outcomes.
- Own engineering planning and delivery for QBP across web, mobile, and full-stack development, including roadmap alignment, resource planning, dependencies, releases, and risk management. Use iterative development practices to deliver predictably and adapt as the team learns.
- Own the team's technical direction in partnership with senior engineers and architects. Guide architecture and service-integration decisions with cloud and shared-platform teams, stay engaged in code reviews, and contribute code when needed to unblock the team or demonstrate sound practices.
- Be accountable for the quality of the software the team delivers, including financial-data correctness, performance, scalability, security, accessibility, and maintainability. Partner with Quality and engineering teams on automated testing and effective validation of customer workflows.
- Own operational readiness for the team's applications, partnering with cloud services and platform teams on observability, reliability, incident response, and lasting fixes informed by incident reviews.
- Improve engineering effectiveness through reusable designs, code quality, build systems, CI/CD, and release practices, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform health and developer productivity.
- Give leadership and cross-functional partners clear visibility into priorities, customer impact, delivery progress, risks, engineering quality, and team health, raising trade-offs and decisions early. Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in software development, including 4+ years directly managing engineers, with responsibility for technical delivery, performance management, and career development.
- A track record of hiring, coaching, and retaining high-performing engineers, addressing performance gaps, and developing senior engineers and technical leads.
- Experience leading customer-facing software from planning through launch and ongoing operation, with measurable improvements in customer outcomes, delivery effectiveness, or software quality.
- Practical experience using and evaluating AI-assisted development tools, with the ability to coach engineers in their effective use and apply rigorous review, testing, and security standards to AI-assisted work.
