About the role
Who you are
- 10+ years building and operating production backend systems, including enterprise SaaS or PaaS
- 5+ years leading and managing engineering teams, including on-shore and off-shore teams
- Strong programming fundamentals, ideally in Java and/or Python, and the ability to pick up new languages and stacks
- Deep experience operating distributed systems in production, including debugging, profiling, capacity planning, and incident response
- A track record of taking systems from design through production rollout and owning them after launch
- A solid grasp of relational or NoSQL databases, including query performance, indexing, and schema design trade-offs
- A deep understanding of distributed systems, including HTTP protocols, distributed caching strategies, and observability
- Experience being accountable for an availability SLA on a customer-facing platform
- Hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production at scale, ideally Amazon EKS, including troubleshooting cluster, networking, and workload issues
- Experience with GitOps delivery (ArgoCD) and infrastructure as code (Terraform or equivalent)
- A B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, containers, and CI/CD
- Familiarity with observability tooling, including metrics, tracing, and structured logs, and with SRE practices
- Experience implementing continuous delivery and cloud deployment solutions
- Multi-tenant public and private cloud experience
- Hands-on experience operating MongoDB or another NoSQL database at scale, including sharding, replica sets, query profiling, and index tuning
- Agile project and release management experience
- A record of making accurate, fast decisions under production pressure What the job involves
- You own the platform that SnapLogic services run on, including the control plane, its data layer, and the operational tooling that keeps it healthy in production. You set architectural direction, build and grow the team, and stay close enough to the systems to make informed decisions
- You will lead a platform with roughly 50 MongoDB clusters across production and test, holding more than 60TB of data, and ensure the team develops end-to-end understanding of the systems it operates
- You will derive a roadmap balancing customer commitments, technical debt, and platform innovation, and be accountable for reliability and scale as well as delivery. You will work with SRE, application teams, support, and company leadership on platform health
- You own the services that make up SnapLogic’s control plane and set architectural direction for reliability, performance, and scalability across services, the data layer, and upstream dependencies. You review designs for critical components, decide whether to build or buy, assess production-change risks and rewards, and maintain enough hands-on depth to lead credibly
- You lead engineering teams, focusing on productivity, quality, and team health. You own hiring forecasts and budgets, recruit engineers, and support the growth and promotion of existing team members. You organize the team, delegate technical ownership, develop team leads, give constructive feedback, hold regular one-to-ones, advocate for career growth, and resolve conflict early
- You are accountable for the zero-downtime SLA. You drive root-cause analysis and SRE process improvements, ensure processes are followed, monitor production, and bring in resources before issues have widespread impact. You turn incidents into durable improvements through better tests, observability, automation, or design changes. You manage support escalations, stay in close contact with the support manager, and join customer escalation calls when needed
- You understand Kubernetes beyond deploying workloads, including operators and custom resources, policy enforcement, networking, IAM integration, and capacity. You lead the migration of legacy EC2-based services to Kubernetes without risking availability, and own developer self-service, on-demand environments, and an internal developer portal as products
- You own the strategy for a MongoDB footprint of roughly 50 clusters and more than 60TB of data, covering query and index tuning, schema and access-pattern reviews, shard and replica-set operations, upgrade and migration planning, and capacity planning. You spread this expertise across the team
- You champion AI adoption throughout the Software Development Life Cycle to improve engineering excellence, delivery speed, and product quality. You bring hands-on experience designing, building, and deploying AI agents to automate engineering workflows and raise developer productivity, while maintaining engineering best practices, security, and quality
- You work directly with application teams, SRE, support, and the field to set and meet expectations for platform capability and health. You translate platform work into business terms, document processes, keep the team informed, and represent engineering credibly to customers when needed Benefits
- Employees get the benefit of up to 100 percent coverage for medical, dental, and vision insurance, a competitive compensation package that includes stock options and a 401(k) plan, FSA and Dependent Care Spending Accounts, monthly cell and gym reimbursement, and flexible time off
- How about a catered lunch every day? Check it off the list. We’re also proud of our well-stocked kitchen with snacks and drinks and “Snappy Hours.” Holiday parties and other excuses to celebrate are part of our DNA. And we’re family friendly, too – they’re welcome at many of our company gatherings
- We also toss in a few extras like commuter benefits, wellness offerings (we want you healthy), and best of all, a dog-friendly environment, because dogs remind us to always be in the moment. And they do silly things, too
